Are you looking for a hidden paradise that is one of the quietest lodges in The Gambia? Then you’ve come to the right place. Kurumbo Lodge is nestled on the edge of a fascinating mangrove forest in the south of The Gambia, near the charming village of Kartong. Far away from all modern noise interference, at Kurumbo you’ll be in touch with birds and the nature only. What guests notice particularly positively: at Kurumbo Lodge there are a few path lights in the dark and otherwise only stars or the moon, which visitors can experience.

Kurumbo Lodge is lovingly managed by Mrs Ria Rugge, a dedicated hostess from the Netherlands, who has made it her mission to make your stay unforgettable. Besides Ria are working seven hardworking ladies and gentlemen from Kartong for visitors and guests. A lovely breakfast is prepared and a delicious dinner can be served by the nice Kurumbo Lodge staff.

The Halahin River is the border between The Gambia and Senegal, is a heaven for birdwatchers. It forms part of the larger West African coastal ecosystem, which is renowned for its rich biodiversity. Along the Halahin River, you can find over 300 bird species, ranging from vibrant residents to migratory visitors.

Halahin River and its nature life

For nature lovers, Kurumbo Lodge at the shore of the Halahin River, is the perfect place for deep relaxation. Birds have various ‘bathing opportunities’ and the soundscape can be like music to those who love nature. Biodiversity is hard to beat here. To find are for example Herons and Egrets: Grey heron, Great egret, and Cattle egret. Kingfishers: Pied kingfisher, Giant kingfisher, and Malachite kingfisher. Waders: African jacana, Black-winged stilt, and Common sandpiper.
